The District:
The Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy was
established in 1935 by the Salt Lake City Commission. The
District's primary function is to provide high quality drinking
water for our member cities, Salt Lake City and Sandy City, by
creating a firm water supply.
The Position:
The District is seeking a full-time Senior Engineer. Must have a
Professional Engineer license with a Bachelor's degree or higher in
Civil Engineering or related field. A minimum of eight years of
engineering experience is required; consulting experience
preferred. An emphasis in water treatment and water transmission
preferred. Experience with design and construction of water
conveyance, treatment, and storage facilities is highly
desirable.
This position performs various engineering and project management
related duties associated with the District's infrastructure and
capital improvements. Independently plans and oversees the scoping,
planning, design, and preparation of plans, specifications, and
cost estimates for water systems engineering work with emphasis on
design, construction, and operation for projects ranging from
simple to complex. Minimum starting salary at $82,000/year
depending on experience.

Knowledge of:
Water treatment principles and processes, water resources, fluid
hydraulics, and hydraulic systems.
Different land use types including deeded easement and fee
ownership and recognize the legal documents for each. Must
understand the principles behind proscriptive rights, boundary by
acquiescence, and adverse possession.
General and advanced construction techniques and practices and
construction management.
Basic principles and practices of cathodic protection as related to
corrosion mitigation.
Computer programs including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Outlook, AutoCad, Google Earth, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS
Online.
Ability to:
Read, understand, and prepare contract documents and construction
drawings.
Write and review legal descriptions and understand general survey
practices.
Use good personal judgment and discretion in performing all job
functions.
Remain calm in crisis and emergency situations.
Use discretion when handling and disseminating sensitive
information.
Have good written and effective verbal communication skills.
Provide and receive constructive feedback.
Adapt to changing technologies and environments.
