The Opportunity The Commercial Products Development Manager is responsible for the development and/or management (including performance, marketability and strategic positioning) of commercial products (large employer insured, large employer self-funded, Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan, small employer, individual ACA/non-ACA, ancillary products, etc), including management of associated vendor/partner relationships and contracts. The manager may recommend opportunities for new markets, products, services, and other strategic priorities for the organization. Essential Job Duties Responsible to ensure assigned commercial products (or new product) are positioned to meet SelectHealth membership growth goals and NOI targets. This includes management of the entire product life cycle (market intelligence, conceptualization, product development, launch, growth, maturity, and retirement). Ensures products meet highest levels of market need, administrative efficiency, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. - Evaluates and implements benefit design modifications and other strategic product initiatives to improve products and services offered to customers to meet established objectives. Works with actuarial and underwriting departments in evaluating, analyzing, establishing, and modifying benefit designs, networks, and pricing to ensure ongoing marketability of assigned products. - Assists in the development of new medical and ancillary products as assigned. Develops, manages, and implements strategic product initiatives. Ensures products address market needs and achieve the overall business objectives. For new products, assists in the completion of a feasibility analysis and business case; recommends the new product or opportunity; and a provides a business plan that includes a pro forma and financial projections; sales forecasts; an operational assessment; a marketing plan; and a high level implementation plan. - Responsible for introduction of new commercial products to market. Works with sales, marketing, broker relations, and other internal departments to develop multi-channel product distribution strategies, ensure effective communication/promotional strategies, develop key messaging for products and key strategic market/regulatory issues, and produce product materials and sales collateral, etc. Responsible for internal and external training on features, benefits, and the value proposition of products and services. - Assists in evaluating new product opportunities, geographic/service area expansion, new market entry and potential strategic partnerships to meet SelectHealth's growth objectives. - Understands new legislation and regulations and the associated impact to product viability. Identifies opportunities, challenges, and solutions for impacted business segments. Works with internal compliance and legal departments to ensure compliance of all product offerings. For applicable products (e.g., Individual Exchange products, FEHB) works with regulators and other entities (e.g., Office of Personnel Management, Your Health Idaho) to ensure compliance with regulations, submission/filing, and reporting requirements. Responsible to ensure timely and accurate annual product submissions/filings. - Educates, collaborates, and communicates with SelectHealth departments to ensure understanding of SelectHealth strategic positioning and ensure effective integration of SelectHealth product strategies with system strategies and initiatives. Provides insurance market and product education to internal teams. - Monitors national carrier and local competitor products, positioning, strategies, networks, as well as local and national industry trends. Identifies emerging market trends. Conducts market research (multiple markets/geographies) and analysis; customer research; and concept testing for potential new product opportunities or service area expansions. Ensures that customer research and market/competitive intelligence is utilized to ensure optimal product positioning. - Manages relationships with vendors, partners, and affiliate contracts as applicable. - Monitors key performance indicators for all commercial product lines. Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, economics, a clinical field, public health, healthcare, or public administration. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified. - Four years of experience in health care, health insurance, managed care, employee health benefits management, or self-insured plan administration. - Four years of experience with product development, product management, project management, service line management, network development, strategic planning, or business development. - Demonstrated strong skills in planning, detail and accuracy, creative thinking, and verbal, written and interpersonal communication. - Demonstrated skills in spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, word processing, and internet research. - Willingness and availability to travel on occasion. Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, clinical field, public health, or related field. - Large group presentation experience - Project management experience - Product development experience Physical Requirements - Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information. - Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. - See and read computer monitors and documents. - Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
