We have over 65,000 employees and a presence in virtually every country around the world to address some of the most challenging global health issues.The Machine Operator (EO) reports directly to the Production Manager and is responsible for performing routine set up, daily maintenance, and troubleshooting of Extrusion manufacturing equipment. The (EO) controls and adjusts machine setting, inspects in-process parts to ensure consistent quality and removes defective product, packaging, and component material. The (EO) Assists with root-cause analysis activities for process or product exceptions. They are also responsible to identify and escalate any issues associated with safety, the machine performance and/or product quality. *** $2,000 hiring incentive being offered to new hires based on position eligibility. ***CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrate the ability to become certified on all types of equipment within the Extrusion Department.Perform all duties required of an Extrusion Operator in addition to the listed responsibilities.Responsible to produce quality products per the established standard operating procedures (SOP's) utilizing good manufacturing practices (GMP's)Responsible for maintaining a safe work area and demonstrating team-oriented behaviors.Responsible to clean the work area according to the guidelines for the cleaning of the Extrusion Department.Demonstrate respectful use of the property and equipment in the Extrusion Department.Perform machine set-ups, changeovers, troubleshooting, and maintenance with little or no supervision.Perform equipment adjustments within the guidelines of the process master to meet production and quality expectations.Complete and interpret statistical process control charts to keep the production process within limits.Acquire and supervise the vital materials for manufacturing on work orders.Responsible to conduct Shift Start Up (SSU) meetings and maintain Primary Visual Display (PVD) boards.Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Hazardous Waste regulations.Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.Work overtime when required.Other duties as assigned.KEY DELIVERABLES:Safety- Thinks Safe, Acts Safe! Reports any accident or potential accident immediately.Quality- Determines the cause of quality problems and take appropriate action per our quality procedures.Continuous Improvement/Delivery- Actively participates in Continuous Improvement teams and activities, including lean manufacturing, 5S, blitzes, Shift Start-up, updating PVD boards, etc. Meets or exceeds department KAS completion goals5S- Maintains equipment and an organized clean area by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping down equipment.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSEducation: High school diploma or equivalent requiredEffective communication skills in English are essential speaking, reading, writing.Competent in basic mathematics and computer skillsExperience: Minimum of (1-4) years' experience operating and maintaining plastic processing equipment, or related experience within a production environment preferred, including all duties required of an Extrusion OperatorRelated experience should demonstrate an ability to perform within a position of significant responsibility that could be applied towards machine skillsCompetencies:Zero-Loss Mindset- Believes that "Zero injuries/Safety Accidents" is the only acceptable goal and it is attainable.Growth Mindset - Has the courage to iterate, try new things, and embrace change. While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to episodes of walking, kneeling, balancing, crouching, pushing/pulling, repetitive grasping, hearing, twisting, lifting, frequent use of hand to finger, handle, feel, pick or type which can include repetitive motion of the wrists, hands or fingers.The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift to 20 lbs., frequently lift up to 10 lbs., occasionally pulling/pushing up to 30 lbs., frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs., frequently carry up to 10 lbs.The position will almost always have exposure to work near moving mechanical equipment, and potential temperature fluctuations.Occasionally the position will have exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, cleaning compounds and solvents.The incumbent may be exposed to noise levels in the work environment moderate to loud.Employees must have normal field of vision corrected to 20/40 in each eye and must have hearing sufficient to safely operate material handling equipment in a manufacturing/distribution environment.The incumbent must be willing and able to wear required PPE such as, safety glasses, face mask and/or shield, hearing protection, safety shoes, hair and beard net and smock.Shift: 8 Hour shift Monday - FridayFor certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company's receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
